Julie Piazza-King, Director, Family Life Child Care Program, on the recent study of Kids Watching Hours of TV at Home Daycare
There is extensive research available that demonstrates the negative impact that watching too much television has on young children. Unfortunately, many child care centers and home child care providers rely on television as a passive media, to keep children occupied throughout the day. The Family Life Child Care Centers follow the recommendations of the National Association of Education of Young Children (NAEYC) which promotes limiting use of television, videotapes and audiotapes to developmentally appropriate programming. Television is only used in our classrooms on a very limited basis when there is an opportunity to extend learning within the classroom and to integrate and enrich the curriculum.
